School is out of session

So my summer officially ended three days ago, June 26th, and I couldn't be happier. June 26th also marked my tenth year of teaching. I can't believe the time has just flew by and I'm still standing. I have truly been blessed, so I will enjoy this well deserved summer off.
Thursday, my first full day off, I ran, went to the doctors and made a happy hour that I seem to miss all year. Friday I got my hair braided for the summer. Saturday I went to splish splash with the Girl Scouts, and today I'm in Harlem at the Harlem arts festival. I need a vacation from my vacation already.   Lol, but im loving it. Be back soon with more summer highlights. Enjoy!

Henna

Another summer tradition of mine is getting a henna tattoo. So this is the first one for the summer. You are seeing it on the first day. Today is actually the 3rd
day and its getting light already, but I do have to wash my hands and arm. So now I have to think of a better place to put it.

Just a Saturday in NYC

NYC BBQ at Madison park on 23street. Black jack BBQ pulled pork and blue smoke beef ribs were my choices.

Natural

At a hair event. Curls products are awesome for natural hair. Glad I made it off
the waiting list. Now I have to go home wash my hair and prepare for the weekend events I have plan. Summer break is coming into fill swing.

Summer unofficially started

The unofficial official start of the summer begins with Memorial Day weekend. It was about this time last year that I started my blog, and I'm back. I anticipate having more posts since I have a iPhone now. If I can just remember when I'm on the street to take pics of the many things that  NYC has to offer during the summer. Any who, until next time, have a look at my purse I got this year at Bam's African street fair.

Summer Fun

My summer has officially come to an end. It has been a well deserved, restful, but eventful, stay-cation. I officially ended the summer with my trip to Martha’s Vineyard (for the third summer in a row). I think this particular vacation will become a staple in my life. It’s peaceful and invigorating at the same time. Since I have returned from the Vineyard, I have been to see the revised movie Sparkle, Brunch at the Russian Tea Room, spent an afternoon on Broadway to see Porgy and Bess, had a beach day, and spent a Saturday afternoon with my mother at Coney Island. Most of which were not free, which was the original plan of the vacation, (all things free in the city). But it was time, fellowship, and money well spent.  I won’t discontinue my blog, but I will add more to it throughout the fall. I plan on taking a dance class, and continuing my daily exercise. I lost 11 lbs this summer, even with all the mimosas filled bunches and lunches. So continue with me on my 50lb weight loss journey.

Growth

I missed the Jeff Redd, Johnny Kemp concert, but I did see some interesting films and spent some well deserved time with my brother from another mother.  The first film we saw was Le Harve, a French film about a man who helped an African immigrant teen get to his family in London. The second film, which was much more interesting, 30 Beats, was about the sexual escapades of New Yorkers. What I liked about the film was they didn’t show any explicit sex scenes, they took you close, and then continued to the next couple, which included one partner from the previous  couple moving one to their next sexual adventure. Your mind was your sexual playground.

As for the weekend, I spent it in hair heaven. I attended a natural hair event, where natural hair women were celebrated because of their natural hair and their sprit. I also attended the “end of an era” celebration for Tendrils natural hair salon. After 25 years Ms. Diane Bailey decided she has style her last twisted in order to teach, write, and start a natural hair institute. Hairs to the future
