OLD SCHOOL

Last week was so much fun, Chubb Rock, DJ Scratch, EPMD, and Big Daddy Kane represented for the old school rap heads at BB Kings. I always think about my students and what will they have to represent their childhood musically, the music now sucks. Nothing, from what I hear, will stand the test of time. To continue with the old school flavor, this week’s concert includes, Jeff Redd, Johnny Kemp, Full Force, Force MD’s, and Meli’sa Morgan.  RIP Miss Melody.

All In A Week

So this past week I went to Chelsea Piers for River Flicks on the Hudson for a screening of Money Ball starring Brad Pitt. Not really interesting if you are not into baseball or Brad, sorry. But it was time well spent with my sister- friend Pam. Next it was off to Apollo Live, the new version of amateur night at the Apollo with guest host Tony Rock. I ran into to a high school friend who was on the production crew. I was able to score a better seat, which put me closer to Gladys Knight and Michael Bivans. Doug E. Fresh was in the house, and Tamia was the special musical guest. I ended the week with after work drinks with a friend for her birthday, the diva herself, Van-ess. But I also had to get my anointing, spending Sunday morning at First Corinthian Baptist church in Harlem. A friend of mine constantly reminds me, it’s all about balance.

Doing It All

So much is going on. I have only been on vacation for two weeks and I feel that it is almost over. But there is so much to do. Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival started yesterday, the after work roof tops are in full swing,  movies and music in the park, seminars at the Schomburg Museum, free jazz at City Winery and other places around the city. My calendar is full, but I’ll be back by end of week to let you know what I actually did. Work hard, play harder.

Mr. Magic

Although I didn’t see the revised 21 Jump Street with Channing Tatum, I have seen the last 4 or five movies he’s been in, yes even Magic Mike. Tatum could play a gay frog that’s purple instead of green and I would go see it. That man is too sexy for words. There is something about him that is wholesome yet manly and intriguing. It may not be the block buster of the summer, but if you are looking for eye candy, it’s the cat’s meow.
